POSHAN has been working with OneWorld South Asia to collaboratively launch a media fellowship program for journalists from print and electronic media in India to report on issues of hunger and nutrition from different parts of the country.
The focus will be on maternal and child nutrition, especially in context of the first 1000 days of the child’s life. The intent is to increase media coverage of these critical issues in order to improve public awareness.
After fielding many applicants, six journalists were awarded media fellowships on undernutrition for the year 2013. The fellowship will encourage reporting on different aspects of nutrition including: approaches to improving maternal and child nutrition; strengthening the contributions of various sectors and schemes (e.g., ICDS, health, sanitation, agriculture, water, and rural development); highlighting key issues around program governance, funding, and accountability with an emphasis on strategies to improve the same; and monitoring nutrition status, performance of schemes and sectors, and the use of data to inform action.
