ATMI ASEAN
Challenges
The Agricultural Transformation and Market Integration (ATMI ASEAN) project was launched in 2016 in response to concerns surrounding food security and inclusivity throughout the ASEAN region. This project is funded by the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and co-implemented by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
Key aims
ATMI ASEAN focuses on strengthening the capacity of targeted ASEAN Member States (AMS) to develop policies and programs addressing issues of food security and agricultural development and enhance cooperation among AMS in the areas of R&D, food safety, and quality standards, as well as encouraging investments in food and agri-based industries, which benefit smallholder farmers, poor urban and rural households.
Project activities and outputs
- Policy studies and expert workshops will analyze the structural transformation of selected regional food and agri-based value chains, assess current national sectoral strategies and policies in targeted AMS, and review regional R&D initiatives and targeted national strategies and policies.
- High-level policy forums and roundtables: will support policy dialogues on the adoption of a shared vision and strategy on food security and agricultural competitiveness among Member States and develop a roadmap for future programs within ASEAN and at the national level.
- Technical assistance for planning and policy development: ATMI ASEAN will assist the ASEAN Secretariat, related ASEAN Sectoral/Technical Working Groups, and technical agencies in targeted AMS in designing food-security cooperation programs and regional strategies for value-chain development through regulations, policies, preparation of multi-stakeholder roadmaps, and other planning tools. Additionally, ATMI ASEAN will support national agencies of AMS in updating national policy and planning frameworks.
