IFPRI Named Grantee in ClimateWorks Foundation’s Global Call for Extreme Heat Solutions

IFPRI NAMED GRANTEE IN CLIMATEWORKS FOUNDATION’S GLOBAL CALL FOR EXTREME HEAT SOLUTIONS

by IFPRI, South Asia | August 19, 2026

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has been selected as one of eleven grantees under ClimateWorks Foundation's Adaptation & Resilience Fund (A&R Fund), following a global open call for solutions addressing extreme heat in vulnerable urban communities across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The project, led by IFPRI researchers Carly Trachtman, Kate Ambler, and Mehrab Bakhtiar, focuses on South Asia and will develop asset-based finance innovations to strengthen heat resilience among urban food vendors, pairing loans for mobile cooling equipment with a parametric repayment structure that eases payment burdens during extreme heat events, aiming to bridge a persistent financing gap faced by women street vendors in particular. The award is part of a $9.3 million grant portfolio announced by the A&R Fund, spanning both innovative finance and institutional capacity-building initiatives worldwide.
