Representatives from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) participated in a high-level meeting chaired by Shri Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss strengthening evidence-based policymaking and advancing agricultural transformation in Jammu & Kashmir.

The meeting reviewed a proposed collaboration between Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) and IFPRI aimed at supporting sustainable agricultural growth through data-driven policy analysis, institutional capacity strengthening, and improved research–policy engagement.
Discussions included the potential establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Food Policy and Data Analytics at SKUAST-Jammu, envisioned as a knowledge hub to support policy research, monitoring, and evaluation for agricultural transformation, particularly in mountain and high-value production systems.
During the meeting, Dr. Shahidur Rashid, Director for South Asia-IFPRI, and Dr. Anjani Kumar, Senior Research Fellow IFPRI, shared insights on strengthening agricultural productivity, improving value chains, and promoting inclusive growth that benefits smallholder farmers through the 'Institutional and Technical Supports for Revitalizing Agriculture and Rural Economies in Jammu & Kashmir (ITS-RARE)' initiative.

The dialogue also highlighted the importance of aligning ongoing initiatives, including the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Jammu & Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement Project (JKCIP), and Mission YUVA, to enhance farmer incomes, generate employment opportunities, and support youth and women in agriculture.
