National Seminar on Indian Seed Sector

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON INDIAN SEED SECTOR

by IFPRI South Asia | September 25, 2023

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

India is the fifth-largest seed market in the world and hosts a vibrant network of enterprises working together to make quality seeds available to farmers at affordable prices. Much of this progress can be attributed to the contributions of the public and private sector, assisted by the enabling policies of the Indian Government. However, certain challenges have been impeding the sector’s growth leading to a rising need for a common platform to bring together various stakeholders to realign synergies and deliberate on ways to support the seed system. The two-day national seminar titled ‘Regulations and Governance Issues in Indian Seed Sector’ was envisioned as one such event and jointly organized by IFPRI South Asia Regional office, in partnership with Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (ICAR-NIAP), and the Federation of Seed Industries of India (FSII).
