Policy Research and Strategy Support for Agricultural Development and Food Security in Nepal Objective:
Research sustainable solutions for ending hunger and poverty in Nepal and provide support to the Government of Nepal in the areas of policy research and strategy support for agricultural development and food security by: providing evidence-based policy research; building capacity for policy analysis and monitoring and evaluation; and promoting policy dialogue, dissemination of information, and evidence-based research results.

Approach:
The three preliminary focus areas proposed by IFPRI are: 1) Agriculture-related policy analysis; 2) Agricultural development strategy support; and 3) In-country capacity development in policy analysis and monitoring and evaluation. The desired outputs of the project are:

  1. Greater capacity among knowledge providers in the research community to generate policy research results that fill key knowledge gaps on a needs basis, to have an impact on the design and implementation of Nepal’s agricultural development strategy.
  2. Greater capacity among policymakers and implementation agents to demand and absorb policy research in the process of policy dialogue and formulation.
  3. A broader and more integrated knowledge community made up of researchers, policymakers, and civil society and private-sector stakeholders to support pro-poor policy dialogue and strategic priority setting.
